Xavi's replacement is known! A surprising choice...
Planning hasn't been a strong point for FC Barcelona in recent seasons, but the Blaugrana seem to be slowly preparing for the future.
Several youngsters have been linked with long-term contracts and next year Barcelona will move to the Estadi Lluis Companys, while Camp Nou will be renovated.
According to Sport, the club is also looking for a future manager. One of the coaches followed is Mikel Arteta of Arsenal. The Basque coach went through the FC Barcelona academy as a player before being loaned to Paris Saint-Germain, then to Rangers on a permanent contract.
Besides, Arteta learned his skills under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City before taking charge of Arsenal. Guardiola is the reference in Barcelona.
Currently, the message coming from Barcelona is that confidence in Xavi Hernandez is complete and there is no intention to make any changes.
If FC Barcelona were to end the season without a trophy and with a significant delay on Real Madrid, that could change things. Arteta's impressive work hasn't gone unnoticed and besides, he shares a good relationship with the director of football Mateu Alemany, and sporting director Jordi Cruyff.
