A statement by the German champion said:
"Sadio Mane was welcomed by Professor Christian Fink and Dr. Andy Williams from London and underwent successful surgery.
"During surgery, the tendon of his right fibular head was reattached. Therefore, the Bayern striker will be unable to participate in the World Cup in Senegal and will start his rehabilitation in Munich in a few days."
The reigning African Cup of Nations champions starts their World Cup season against the Netherlands on Monday.
Group A continues with matches against hosts Qatar on 25 November and Ecuador on 29 November.
