FIFA World Cup: In the opening match host Qatar defeated, won

The host nation of Qatar suffered a 0-2 defeat to Ecuador, a South American team, in the tournament's opening match.


Al Bait Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar, hosted the megaevent's opening match. There were a lot of people in the 60,000-seat stadium. The Ecuadorian team got the ball into the opponent's net in the eighth minute, but the goal was disallowed by the referee because of a foul. On a penalty kick in the 16th minute, Ecuador's experienced player Ener Valencia scored their first goal. Enter Valencia headed in a cross from Preciado in the 31st minute to give Ecuador a 2-0 lead at the break. Ecuador's bridge was heavy in the second half, but the Qatari team played a relatively better game. They missed several good chances to score in this half. On the other hand, the Ecuadorian team was unable to even score more, so Ecuador won the first match of the Football World Cup 0-2.
